Fred's Friday Thought: Anthem of the Seas (Video)

Fred.\ Holidays Operations Manager, Simon Chambers, writes...

A New Era of Cruising is upon us.

With change comes concern and doubt. However, I can honestly say Anthem of the Seas is a ‘game changer’ that will please all holiday guests. And when I say all holiday guests I mean couples, luxury cruisers, families, destination enthusiasts, cultural junkies and, dare I say, cruise ship snobs.

I have been fortunate enough to visit and sail on numerous cruise vessels and I can say that Anthem of the Seas is far from being just a cruise ship; it is a cruise resort. However, with the word resort comes the idea of a large complex and, although Anthem of the Seas has a very distinctive size and external design, the interior is to be admired just as much.

Boutique bars and dining venues that you would expect from a ultra-luxury cruise line, speciality restaurants serving food that some of the world’s largest cities wish they could provide and an accompaniment of theatre shows, acts and entertainment that friends and families pay small fortunes to enjoy is all matched with a layout that enables guests to experience a large resort but with a small ship feel. Yes, I said small ship feel. And I honestly mean that. Staff speak to you as an individual and attentiveness is second nature.

Consider the following:

Day 1 You take that first step into your Loft Suite. After exploring the extent of your accommodation, you relax in your in-suite lounge whilst making your dinner reservation for Chops Grill. A sumptuous beef dinner is then followed by post-dinner drinks in Vintages. One would consider this a luxurious experience and they wouldn’t be disappointed.

Day 2 A relaxing morning is spent in the solarium, before a tempting treat in the spa. Rejuvenated, you extend your day of health and wellness activities to include dinner at Divinly Decadence, Anthem of the Seas' 500 calorie or less restaurant. You finish the evening with an awe-inspiring experience (not show), Spectra's Cabaret, in the unique 270°.

Day 3 Enjoy a later rise and a light bite in Jamie’s Italian, before a 90-minute theatre show with jaw-dropping performances and a West End style atmosphere.

Day 4 You start the day with a well-deserved mid-morning sleep by the pool, either outside or in the well-designed pool house. A light snack at Johnny Rockets follows, before a tantalising treat at Wonderland in the evening. This dining venue is unlike anything you have experienced before.

Day 5 Although considered for kids, you head to the SeaPlex for an adult's game of table tennis, fussball or air hockey. Afterwards, you take a late lunch in Michael's Genuine Pub and enjoy a relaxing night in your stateroom with a movie from the on-demand selection.

And this only touches the surface of the delights that await.

With exotic and cultural destinations planned to perfection, and matched with enough time to experience everything that you wish to see, the perfect holiday is created. And here's the important part; Anthem of the Seas is designed for you. No one is going to tell you that you must do this or you need to do that; it's up to you how you choose to spend your time on board.

The words Royal Caribbean should only be whispered. Anthem of the Seas is a name that stands out in its own right.

This truly is a new era of cruising.
