Fred's Friday Thought: Year-Round Sun In The Canary Islands

Aloha adventurers and welcome to another Friday Thought from Fred.\. After looking at trips to the Polar Regions last week, today we are going to turn up the heat and put the focus on something at the other end of the spectrum. The Hotel Jardin Tecina is a Fred. Olsen owned resort on the beautiful island of La Gomera. This paradise in the Canaries can offer sun and glorious temperatures practically all year round and is the perfect place for a relaxing break.

As one of the smaller and quieter Canary Islands, La Gomera is the perfect place to escape the crowds and settle in for a week on the beach or soaking up the sun by the pool. You will find the Hotel Jardin Tecina in the south of the island, close to the coast and surrounded by dramatic scenery. This is something that can be said for the rest of the island too as it offers beautiful vistas and excellent walking opportunities at every turn. There’s the Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you will find many trails that weave their way through the stunning landscape and introduce you to many endemic species of flora and fauna.

Back onsite, there are plenty of things to do at the hotel itself. The adjacent golf course is perfectly designed to make the most of the views on offer and also offer a challenge to both beginners and more seasoned players. Many of the 18 holes hug the cliff top and so you will be in an excellent spot to witness the wonder of Mount Teide across the Atlantic Ocean on the neighbouring island of Tenerife.

Besides golf, there are many other sports available at the Hotel Tecina. These include tennis, squash, snooker, table tennis, basketball and even diving. There are also five different swimming pools, four freshwater and one saltwater, for you to cool off in when the sun’s heat gets too much. These are surrounded by plenty of sun loungers and parasols and can be heated if need be. Relaxation can also be found in the onsite beauty centre where massages, saunas, and gym equipment can all be taken advantage of.

All that taking it easy is likely to leave you with a healthy appetite and so you’ll be pleased to know that there are four different dining areas inside the resort. With buffet and a la carte options, there will be something for each member of the family to enjoy and the opportunity to try some of the local seafood.

The Hotel Jardin Tecina works hard to ensure it operates in a sustainable manner whilst also helping the local community. Because of their continued commitment to using renewable energy and looking after the Gomeran environment they were recently acknowledged with a gold sustainability award from Travelife.

Getting to the hotel involves a short flight to Tenerife where you will be transferred to the port of Los Cristianos to board a ferry. After a short ride to the port of San Sebastian on La Gomera, you will be transferred to the Jardin Tecina by taxi. It may seem like a bit of a lengthy journey, but it is worth it to reach this isolated paradise.

That’s everything we have for you this week, for more information about the Hotel Jardin Tecina, please go to the website on the screen now. Thanks a lot for watching, please join us again next week for another Friday Thought from Fred.\. Goodbye.
