The charming town of Eisenach is located in between the northern foothills of the Thuringian Forest and the Hainich National Park in the middle of Germany.

Eisenach is well-known as the birth or home town of various famous names throughout the years. Martin Luther lived there as a child and translated the New Testament into German at the Wartburg Castle. It is also the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach and was the residence of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe during his time as prime minister of Weimar from 1777 onwards.

For tourists, the city provides five main reasons for visiting: culture, hiking, cycling, water and wellness.

The Wartburg Castle is an absolute must during a stay at Eisenach. It was founded in 1067 and, in 1999, was placed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. The best way to hear more about its fascinating history is on a guided tour around the site.

The Luther house has a special exhibition which tells the story about Luther and the late Middle Age. Part of the exhibition includes the story about the translation of the New Testament by Martin Luther at Wartburg Castle.

The world's largest museum of the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach is to be found in Bach's House.

Automobile World presents the history of over 110 years of motor manufacturing heritage in the town, based on the Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach AG (Vehicle factory of Eisenach), founded in 1898.

The Kurhaus Bad Liebenstein is located close to Eisenach and is perfect for relaxing, healthy sports and medical wellness.

The area's cycling routes allow all sport fans to discover the wonderful region in a completely different way. Guided cycling tours are also adapted for those who would rather be led by a local.

Eisenach primarily serves typical German cuisine. The range of restaurants lets tourists feel comfortable and gives them an insight into the most important culinary highlights.

The Kartoffelhaus is famous for their potato specialities and the steak house "Zum Ritter" offers all kinds of meat dishes.

At the Eisenacher Hof, guests can experience high-class gastronomy and in the Lutherroom, a Middle-Age dinner is served, accompanied by different games and a unique atmosphere.

The pedestrian area is a lovely place to explore the old streets and do a bit shopping as well. Quaint little souvenir shops are to be found in the small alleys.

Over 30 shops and cafés are situated in the Shopping Centre PEP, in the centre of Eisenach.
